The Musée du Rhum St. James inside the distillery offers a walk through the history of the cane and rum since its inception in 1765. At the time, the distillery was on the territory of the commune of Saint-Pierre, where the Reverend Edmond Lefebure, superior of the convent of the Brothers of Charity and alchemist, fashioned a high quality white spirit.
It was after the 1902 eruption that the owners moved to St. Mary’s. Outside, in a green setting, you will get acquainted with the old mills, huts, distillation columns, boilers “Father Labat,” steam engines and locomotives.
A steam train offers a walk in time through the cane field to the Banana Museum.
